Meeting a farmer's family in Risaralda – Colombia

Meet Julio Cesar Madrid, a third-generation coffee producer from Risaralda, Colombia. He manages three farms, more than 200 ha farm near Los Nevados Natural National Park, known for its high-quality and innovative coffee production.

Julio also oversees Finca La Riviera, where we can find Geisha, Sidra Bourbon, Mokka and very suave coffee varieties and Buenos Aires Farm, where the regional varieties are growing.

La Riviera is known for its meticulous cultivation practices and high-quality coffee, contributing to the regional reputation for excellence. Buenos Aires, part of the Café UBA alliance, further exemplifies innovative coffee farming with a focus on sustainability and quality. Together, these farms represent the pinnacle of Colombian coffee production.

Julio’s work is supported by his daughter, Maria Antonia Madrid, a biologist who researches microbial starter cultures to enhance coffee fermentation. Together, they produce exceptional specialty coffees.

Finca Milan grows diverse coffee varieties like Castillo, Caturra, Pink Bourbon, and Sudan Rume. Julio’s dedication to experimental processing methods, such as nitrogen fermentation, results in unique flavors like watermelon, guava, and tropical fruits.
